REDUCTION OF EMISSIONS

One of the biggest problems the world is facing in the 21st century is secure energy supply.
Today, the way countries generate and use energy is not sustainable. The most obvious proof of this is human-induced climate change.  Dependence on fossil fuels also leads to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that cause climate change as well as creating an economic burden.  We must keep global warming below 1.5 degrees to prevent climate change to cause irreversible consequences for both humankind and our planet. In other words, we have to stabilize the level of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere by ppm. The only way to do this is to reduce the share of fossil fuels in energy generation and turn to renewable energy sources.

The climatic changes occurring together with the global warming have noticeable negative effects on all living conditions and economies. Increase in atmospheric and sea temperatures due to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the air causes climate change.

Carbon Markets divide into two as Compulsory Carbon Markets and Voluntary Carbon Markets. Since Turkey has no obligation under the Kyoto Protocol, the projects are listed in the Voluntary Carbon Market by registering to various standards. The Voluntary Carbon Market can be summarized as such: Companies sensitive to climate changes purchase another company’s carbon reduction certificate in return for their carbon emissions arising from their operations and that certificate documents that the other company’s project saves same amount of carbon emission.
